New Hot Food Trolleys for Springhill Hospice

Springhill Hospice were thrilled to give a very warm welcome to Russ Perks (Eastern Area Charity Steward), Andy Halford (Eastern Area Chairman), Dave Jones (Eastern Area Deputy Chairman) and Lee Reilly (Area Communications Officer) from East Lancashire Masonic Charity. 

The grant-making committee kindly awarded the Hospice £2,455.56, this total was also matched by a grant from the Masonic Charitable Foundation giving a total grant of £4,911.12 for the Hospice to purchase new hot food trolleys. 

The special mobile trolleys, designed to keep food warm, have made an immediate positive impact for our patients and staff. 

Following a delicious hot lunch, Ian Sumner from our Catering Team demonstrated the special features of our super new trolleys! 
 
Ian Sumner said: “Patients have varying needs and may not wish to eat when food is served. The trolleys enable us to be flexible and keep food warm for when patients are ready to eat.”  

The trolleys contribute to the overall wellbeing and comfort of our patients. They can hold up to 8 meals, and when the ward is at maximum capacity, the nurses can just put the meals into the trolleys, instead of having to take them back to the kitchen, ultimately giving them more time to spend with the patients.

Sophie Ansley, Fundraising Manager said: “When meals had to be taken back to the kitchen, it also had a knock-on effect to the kitchen staff, as they would have to wait until the meal was ready to be served again – now they don’t and Staff can finish on time” 

Sam Wells, Chief Executive said: “I cannot thank the East Lancashire Masonic Charity, and the Masonic Charitable Foundation, and all of the Eastern Area Freemasons enough for their very generous grant, which enabled us to purchase the new equipment.”
