An annual memorial event for local businessman and restauranteur, David Ferguson, has this year raised a record amount of money for Springhill Hospice.
Former owner of the Royal Toby Hotel in Castleton, David passed away in 2016 and ‘Fergie’s Memorial Fundraiser’ was established. Now in its third year the event is organised by family and friends, led by David’s daughter Rachel and her partner, Ian Roydes with special mention to Tony Grant who organised the artists and entertainment for the day.
The sell-out charity day, which is hosted at Bamford Bowling Club, has this year made a donation to the Hospice of £10,679.07. More than doubling the amount raised at the event in 2017. Supporters of the event have been keener than ever to honour their friend’s memory, with a number of generously donated raffle and auction prizes, some of which raised four figure sums.
Rachel said, “Dad was a huge supporter of local charities, and of the Variety Club. He raised many thousands of pounds over the years. We wanted to keep this tradition alive in his name and although he was not personally cared for at Springhill, they have given wonderful support to many of our friends. It is such an excellent cause and a chance to give something back.”
Rachel went on to thank everyone for their support. “I could certainly not organise this all on my own. We are all so very grateful to Patrick, Martin and all the staff and volunteers at the club, Michael and Sarah Haworth with their mobile pizza van, ‘Niall’ at Admiral labels for kindly printing the posters and tickets and to all the many family, friends and businesses who have helped to make it such a success.”
Julie Halliwell, Chief Executive said, “We are most grateful to everyone who has supported this amazing fundraising effort. The money raised will be used carefully to provide support for patients and families in our care.”
Our supporters are the reason we can care for local people and their families suffering from incurable diseases.
