Work Experience

Here at Springhill we are able to provide a variety of apprenticeships, work experience and student placements in a wide range of departments around the Hospice.

Apprenticeships

Since 2013 we have been able to provide opportunities for young people aged 18 – 25 to be trained in a variety of roles through the Apprenticeship Scheme.  While making an important contribution to the day-to-day work of the Hospice, apprentices undertake a combination of ‘on the job’ training and college based learning to improve their prospects for future employment.

For further information on work experience placements, please contact Gilly Pollock, HR Administrator at gillian.pollock@springhill.org.uk

Work Experience

We welcome work experience candidates from all ages and backgrounds. Each year the Hospice makes a positive contribution to the development of students and young people by offering work experience placements to local schools and colleges.

Placements normally last one week, during which time students have the opportunity to work alongside our General Volunteers; spend time helping to look after our Day Therapies patients; roll their sleeves up to do some gardening; and help out at one of our charity shops to see how we raise some of our much needed income.

If you’re a student looking for a work experience placement, or know someone who is, it’s really important that you contact us as soon as possible as places are limited to around 20 per year.

For further information on work experience placements, please contact Laura Chattwood, Administrator at laura.chattwood@springhill.org.uk

Student Placements

Nursing

We offer placements to student nurses. Student nurses from University of Salford and Manchester Metropolitan are allocated placements at the Hospice by the allocation officer. The education audit undertaken by Salford University has approved the placement for two students at a time.

Their time at the Hospice can vary from 4 - 14 weeks. Student nurses on a community placement may request a spoke placement at the Hospice by getting in touch with the Education Co-ordinator.

For further information on student nurse placements, please contact Danielle Wood, Inpatient Ward Manager at  danielle.wood14@nhs.net

Counselling

We also offer placements to student counsellors who are in the final year of counselling diploma or degree training.

There are opportunities to gain experience in Palliative Care and Bereavement Counselling as well as working with anticipatory grief and related issues, within a supportive BACP Accredited Counselling Service.

The applicant must meet all the essential criteria on the person specification which is available  to view by clicking here.

For further information on counselling student placements, please contact Beckie Valentine, Psychological Care Manager at beckie.valentine@nhs.net

With each and every placement we aim to give the student a valuable and enjoyable experience.  All we ask in return is that they demonstrate a high level of commitment during their time at Springhill Hospice.
