The Makin Memories Tree is a metal sculptural tree which sits within the beautiful grounds of the Hospice. Each leaf on the tree features an engraved dedication to lost loved ones who have chosen to be remembered by people just like you.

Those leaves help support Springhill Hospice through donations and provide much-needed funds for our services, so we can help even more people in need of palliative care and their loved ones.

Watch to see why Mike chose to dedicate a leaf to his beautiful wife, Jill.

How can I dedicate a leaf to my loved one?

You can choose to dedicate your leaf in memory of your loved one. You can mark a special occasion, share special words or simply have a place to honour your person. Each leaf represents someone special, each with their own unique meaning.

In return, we ask for a donation to the Hospice. This covers the cost of producing an engraved leaf with your personal dedication and helps fund Springhill’s services. Your leaf will then be placed on the ‘Makin Memories Tree’ for a year, and you are invited to attend to add the leaf yourself. After this time, you will be given the option to renew your leaf for further years or collect your leaf to treasure.

  • Please allow at least four weeks for your leaf to be engraved.
  • Prior to engraving, you will receive a certificate confirming the wording of your inscription.
  • Inscriptions should be a celebration of your special person and will be displayed alongside others for everyone to see. For this reason, we respectfully request that dates of death be avoided.
  • We ask for a minimum donation of £180, though you can donate more should you wish.

The Makin Memories Tree is generously supported by the Makin family, in loving memory of their beloved Tom Makin – an extraordinary son, husband and father.

The Makin Memories Tree is generously supported by the Makin family, in loving memory of their beloved Tom Makin – an extraordinary son, husband, and father.

Tom had bravely faced cancer twice before, but when the illness returned in December 2018, he sadly passed away on 12 June 2019, at just 29 years old, from osteosarcoma.

He was cared for at home by Springhill Hospice, giving him the precious gift of time with his two young daughters, who were just three and eight weeks old when he died.

By remembering your loved one with a leaf on our Makin Memories Tree, you are helping to support families going through similar, unthinkably difficult times.
