RCOM support the Eid Extravaganza

Springhill Hospice were delighted to be presented with a cheque for £750 recently from Rochdale Council of Mosques (RCOM) as sponsorship of their first ever Eid Extravaganza.

The event will be held shortly after the Muslim festival of Eid al Adha an important festival in the Muslim calendar. Jo Ali, Community Engagement Officer for Springhill said 

“Given the diverse population that we serve here in Rochdale, we felt it important to include in our programme of events a halal event marking a major religious festival.” 

The venue, Deeplish Community Centre, will be filled with artwork on the theme of Eid from local schoolchildren. There will be stalls, activities, games and of course some delicious halal food. There will also be a sale of Asian women’s partywear clothing, both brand new and pre-loved in the hope that this will spark more recycling and reusing of clothing, in line with Springhill’s eco-ethos. Members of the Springhill Clinical Team will also be on hand to answer any questions about Hospice services, in a relaxed atmosphere. 

Chair of RCOM, Mr Tahir Mahmood said, 

“Springhill Hospice has been at the centre of palliative care for many years. I know of many people that have benefitted from its services. The Mosques across Rochdale recognise the invaluable service it provides to all communities. Rochdale Council of Mosques are proud to sponsor Springhill’s Eid Extravaganza this year. We will continue to support the great service through raising awareness and fundraising through the Mosques.”

Tahir will be judging the Eid art competition and the final pieces will be displayed at the event. Entry is free for anyone to come and enjoy the activities and stalls on offer.
