In memory of Dr Robert Gartside
We are very saddened to announce the death of Springhill Hospice’s first Medical Director, Dr. Robert Gartside.
Together with Margaret Geoghan and Kay Scott, Robert put in countless hours of work to help establish Rochdale’s first ever hospice.
Dr Robert Gartside (MBChB Hons) ran the A&E department at the Royal Southern Hospital in Liverpool, was a Senior House Officer at Wrightington and then a Senior GP in Rochdale for 37 years before becoming Medical Director here at Springhill Hospice.
Robert spent his much-deserved retirement in the Lake District enjoying has passion for fishing and always stayed in touch with the team here.
We send our love to Robert’s loved ones and hope they take solace in knowing what a proud legacy he left by helping to give life to Springhill Hospice.
